Who we are:
Past
Established in 1954 by John Corle, Charlottesville Glass and Mirror was the first glass company in Charlottesville. Mr. Corle opened his business bank account with a deposit of $2.00. His collateral was strong moral values and the ethic of hard work.
The original shop on Vinegar Hill was quickly outgrown.
Mr. Corle built a new shop on Meade Ave, just east of Jak'n'Jil, where Blue Ridge Graphics is currently located. In 1958 the Army Reserve building became available, John Corle saw this as a great opportunity for relocation and decided to move the company to its present location at 1428 East High Street.
Current
In 2000, Dwight Corle purchased the company from his father, continuing the family tradition of serving the commercial and residential glass needs of the Charlottesville area.
In 2008, Dwight expanded the business by opening a second location in Ruckersville, just north of Charlottesville. His wife, Julie, joined the company at that time, and Charlottesville Glass & Mirror became a woman‑owned business.
Six years later, in the spring of 2014, the Ruckersville location transitioned into the company’s commercial fabrication shop, while the original Charlottesville store continued to provide residential and retail services to the community.
Our recently renovated showroom now features updated displays showcasing our latest products, services, and a variety of retail items.
In January 2019, the company embraced a major innovation by becoming fully solar powered.
In 2023, the Ruckersville building was sold as part of a strategic shift to support continued growth. CGM’s fabrication operations were relocated to a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art facility in Zion Crossroads, significantly expanding production capabilities and improving workflow efficiency. Today, CGM operates from two locations: the main office and showroom in Charlottesville, and the modern fabrication building in Zion Crossroads.
Future
With a bright future ahead, the third generation of CGM is prepared to carry forward—and strengthen—the strong moral values and work ethic established by John. Dwight has worked diligently to instill these principles in the next generation, ensuring continuity of the family legacy.
